Today, the three provinces, Leon, Zamora, and Salamanca, form the geographical and administrative centre of Castilla y Leon. The hilly region is arid, so cattle breeding are often the only source of income, whereas the inhabitants on the plains survive on cereal cultivation. The older generation in this region ensure that their traditions are preserved.
