The island of Elba is the largest island of the Tuscan archipelago. It can be reached by ferry boat from Piombino (Costa Etrusca). The services run several times a day the 15 to 20 kms. It is the charming landscape, the rocky coastline dotted with many beautiful beaches, the rough, hilly centre of the island that attracts visitors. These natural beauties are the reason why almost all of the island is part of the nature reserve "Tuscan Archipelago". For almost a year, Elba served as exile for Napoleon Bonaparte. Many buildings on Elba are reminiscent of that time: The Villa San Martino - nowadays a Museum - in Portoferraio or the Villa Madonna del Monte in Marciana Marina are just two examples. Located up in the hills in Marciana Alta is the spa "Fonte di Napoleone" .
