Ranua is a municipality with approximately 4000 inhabitants in southern Lapland, about 82 km south of Rovaniemi. The nature consists to 70% of marshes and bogs, and you will find plenty of cloudberries ("the gold of Lapland") in this self-proclaimed "cloudberry capital". The most popular place to visit is the Ranua Wildlife Park, which is home to around 50 different wild arctic animal species. The biggest lake in Ranua is Lake Simojärvi. On the shore of this beautiful lake, the Japan House, "Japanintalo" is located. This house was built and decorated in Japanese style and here you can experience Japanese culture through courses, exhibitions and ceremonies. From the church town of Ranua, buses go to Rovaniemi, Kajaani and Oulu. Ranua municipality has its own small airport for sports aircrafts but the nearest major airport is located in Rovaniemi.
